iDoms Vocab App Reviews

Disappointing

Not only does this app propose a mere 50 free basic greek words, but one of them has a spelling mistake. I uninstalled it after 10 minutes of use...

Needs update!

This app is helpful for reviewing vocab but it badly needs an update and it needs it soon! The hebrew vowel pointings are messed up for some words. And the app could benefit from having a "back" button where you could go back to the previous word that you may want to look at again but it doesnt have it. Also, it would be nice to have the overall appearance updated but this isnt anything major. In conclusion, it does what it says itll do but could use an update soon since it hasnt been updates since its first release... Hence, 4 stars.

Hebrew vocabulary

Fun and easy to use!

Well see

So I had to buy the vocab list once I installed the app. Ok. Slightly dubious. I bought the Hebrew list. I appreciated the Bibleworks cf for the frequency of the word. Im a little ticket that the vocab is in a quiz format AND there are vowels presented preceding words and non Hebrew letters at the end of certain words. I expected more from o.p.s. I want them to fix these problems so I can update the product. I cannot recommend this app for anyone needing it for academic study of any type.

Limited but has potential in future updates

The app is ok, nothing fantastic but also not horrible. I bought the app for my iPad initially with the Greek New Testament and Hebrew flashcards but the app is going to make me buy them again to get them on my iPhone which I think is ridiculous so heads up all you people who use multiple platforms and make sure you figure out which one you really want. As far as the actual testing goes there is only the flashcard manner of learning. There isnt a multiple choice, reverse multiple choice, quiz, auto shuffle feature, or some of the other niceties that flashcards apps like gFlash offers. Also there isnt any way to add and/or modify cards. Some of the cards are either incorrect or just weird, for instance the Hebrew card yom (יום) has a mystery segol vowel preceding the word, מלך has a ה following it with a sheva under it and an "n" with the spanish looking circumflex accent above it. Also, I should note that there isnt any indication of gender with the Hebrew flashcards. One nice thing though is that the Hebrew verbs do include the qal, niphal, hiphil, and other binyanim verb forms where applicable.

Doesnt work

I bought the Greek vocab. When I tried to download it, the app quit. So I then tried to download the free 50 Greek words, and it did the same. So Im left with no vocab lists, and with $1.99 lost.

Bad

The free version is fine. Dont try to purchase the Hebrew vocab. it doesnt work, and there is NO support Emails are returned undeliverable. Too bad. I would expect more from a religious community.

Great app

I love the idea and the fact that it can be used for free at the basic level. I do wish the Hebrew font was larger on the screen, that way it can be used to train with a partner, for quizzing, etc, I contacted customer support this weekend because the app kept crashing on my iPad 2 (solved with a re-install) and they were great! Fast answer via email with hardly any wait.

Nothing works

Nothing works. It is showing "installed" but then I could not use it. Weird!

Great for Language Cross Training.

This isnt the prettiest looking app, but its extremely effective at its intended purpose, which is to learn Hebrew, Greek, and Latin. It is a fantastic resource for any biblical student interested in beginning to explore the languages of the original texts. It uses proven methods of Neuro-Linguistic Programming to teach vocabulary, which are very effective. Just in two days of use, Ive doubled my vocabulary of all 3 languages! Thank you so much for this wonderful app!

Student

Love this app. It is easy to use, it progressively moves through the vocab as you learn it. And it is inexpensive. It does the basics well and thats all I can ask for.

Effective

This app may not be the best around, but by the price (for the pay options) and the simple way it use the flash card method, this sure is effective to learn hebrew, greek and latin.

Stopped working

Hey, Lugien? You goin fix this app? It stopped working after last update. It says list updating and crashes around 90%.

Great app

I am learning Ancient Greek as an occasional hobbyist, and I have found this to be a terrific application. Very helpful to have the audio files for pronunciation (for the first several hundred words). I like that it will occasionally bring back words that were already learned, as a refresher. Theres a little funkiness going on with the iCloud connection, which in theory should let me keep apace when using either my iPad or iPhone -- sometimes it seems to work but other times not. Overall this is great. I would like a similar app for homeric greek -- maybe it is in the works????

Great tool.

Simple and easy to use. This a a great tool for Greek vocab building.

Excellent

With the ability to buy (for $2 each) comprehensive lists for the Old and New Testaments (Hebrew and Greek respectively, of course), this app is a great way to gradually familiarize yourself with the vocabulary of the Bible. It has an excellent system that introduces new, rarer words once more common words have been learned. Easily worth $4. It also allows you to focus on the Latin of a part of the Summa and the Greek of Romans, which are very nice features.

Great learning App

I have been using this with my children, and it has helped us all learn more Biblical Hebrew words. The point system makes it like a competition against ourselves and keeps us going.

App no longer works

No longer working after updates. The "I know" button no longer gives the word 100% value. This means you can never complete or "learn" a word and move past it. I never get to the words I dont know because I cant get rid of those I am well familiar with. Even making "right" give a higher percentage I cannot get rid of the words I know. I have it set on including only 1 word from the previous list that I know, but I still get the same list over and over. The app used to work fine prior to the update. Please fix. This was an amazing tool.

In-App purchases

Purchasing extra vocabulary through in-app purchases does not work.

awesome!

i got this for help learning Greek & i love it! it is SUPER helpful because you can check your pronunciation - the audio is great and i wish other language learning apps had this same setup! i like that the words cycle the more that you learn! i might have to start learning Hebrew now because it makes Greek so fun & easy. thank you!
